General Job Description:
The Research and Data Manager is responsible for overseeing research and data analysis for the Chamber’s economic development operations. Reporting to the VP, Economic Development, this position will be responsible for managing strategic research advancement and production. Specifically, research in areas impacting the Chamber’s membership, the business community, the broader regional community, and the workforce. Serve as the primary resource in Durham for real estate, market, and labor data and as a clearing house for economic research, information, and analysis to inform development, growth, and investment for internal and external customers.
The Manager will identify opportunities for significant research initiatives with the VP of Economic Development and will collaborate on the utilization of that research. The VP and Manager will work closely with the public policy team to cross-inform one another on important issues and research. The VP and Manager will also work closely with the communications team on the output of their research and the communications planning around that research.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute research studies pertaining to areas impacting the Chamber’s membership, the business community, the broader Research Triangle community, and the North Carolina work force.
- Research and analyze a wide range of complex issues and preparing reports on these issues with particular focus on targeted industry growth and policy implications.
- Develop opportunities to strengthen organization’s credibility with external audiences, including presentations of data and findings to partner organizations.
- Manage large data sets; analyze data and translate for broad audience with reports and other tools.
- Develop and execute integrated analytics modeling and production.
- Support the policy and communications team on relevant issues related to research including statements based on research findings.
- Verify accuracy and strength of arguments, data, and sources, for all Chamber research publications and ensure clarity and objectivity.
- Collaborate with partnering organizations to provide tailored research, data entry, and analysis services.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a discipline such as economics, economic research, data science, data analytics, research and development or related fields.
- Strong analytic ability, quantitative analysis skills, and attention to detail.
- Evidence of effective team building and leadership skills in a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of innovative research development and analytics solutions.
- Experience with economic development related efforts and initiatives
- Experience with Excel, especially writing functions and creating graphs.
- Experience with Salesforce databases and reports
